Skype, a free Voice-Over-IP Program

Make calls from your computer to any other computer, in the world, for free


1. Setup:
 

Make sure that your computer has a connection to the Internet a broadband connection (DSL, Cable) is suggested over a narrowband connection (dial-up).

Open a Web browser and go to the following URL:

http://www.skype.com

Click on the download section either up on top, or towards the middle of page as indicated by the arrows

Click on the version of Skype you will need based on your PC’s Operating System or Mac (OS)

After making your selection, download the installation file to your computer. Make sure you know where you are going to save this file on your computer; you may want to save the file to your desktop as indicated below

Open the downloaded file and you will see the Language Select and the Skype End User License Agreement (EULA) screen

Select the language, read through the Skype End User License Agreement, check the “Yes, I accept the EULA…” box and click install

2. Creating a Skype Account:

 

 

 

Note: If you have setup a Skype account before on another computer, simply type in your Skype Name and password and logon.

Click on the “Don’t have a Skype Name?” link as indicated below

Type in your name and when select the cell “Choose Skype Name” Skype will automatically choose a Skype Name based on your name. If you like the Skype Name, move on to the next step. If you do not like the Skype Name given to you, just type in the Skype Name of your choosing then go to the next step

Type in your password and then retype it in the cell.

Note: You may also want to write this down for your reference in the future.

Click “Next” and you will come to the following screen, type in your e-mail address.

Note: This step is optional, but it is recommended that you type in your e-mail address so you may retrieve you password if you forget.

Type in your city:

Note: This is also optional, this is useful when users are searching for you by your Skype Name and can match your Skype name with the city you have entered.

Click the “Sign in Button”

3. Buddy List


Once you have signed into Skype you will have a buddy list.

You can then go through the following “Getting Started” tutorial to setup your microphone, speakers, and test your connection
